How We Use Your Data

The plain-language version of what we collect, why we need it, and how to get it out — or delete it — whenever you want. The formal version is our privacy policy.

What we collect, and why each piece is needed

  • Meal photos. The photo is what the AI analyzes to estimate what's on your plate. Without it, there's no scan.
  • Estimated nutrition. The output of each scan — estimated ingredients, macros, and the meal grade — is stored so your diary and pattern views work over time.
  • Symptom notes. Your check-ins are what let the app surface possible connections between what you ate and how you felt. They exist only to serve you; we don't use them for anything else.
  • Account email. Needed to sign you in, recover your account, and send account-related email.
  • Device and analytics data. Crash reports and product-usage events (which screens are used, where people get stuck) help us find bugs and improve the app. This is about the app's behavior, not your health.

What is sent to the AI provider

When you scan a meal, the photo — plus the context needed to analyze it, such as your diet type and allergens — is sent to our AI provider to produce the estimate. When you message the coach, your messages (and relevant history, so answers stay grounded in your log) are sent the same way. We list who our providers are and what each receives on the subprocessors page.

How long we keep it

Your data is kept for as long as your account exists, so your history keeps working. Meal photos live in private storage — they're not on the public internet, and the app accesses them through short-lived signed URLs. When you delete your account, we delete your stored photos and all of your rows in our database: chat messages, analytics events, meals, subscription records, and your profile — then the account itself.

Export and deletion

  • Export: Settings → Export data gives you a copy of your data.
  • Delete: Settings → Delete account removes your data immediately — no waiting period, no email to support required.

Deleting the app vs. deleting your account

These are different things, and it's worth being clear about it. Deleting the app from your phone removes it from your device, but your account and its data still exist on our servers — so you can reinstall later and pick up where you left off. If you want your data gone, use Settings → Delete account before (or instead of) deleting the app. If you already deleted the app, reinstall it, sign in, and delete the account from Settings — or email support@trynutriai.com and we'll do it for you.

What we don't do

Your health data — meal photos, symptom notes, grades — is never used for advertising, and we don't sell it. No system is perfectly secure and we won't pretend otherwise, but we design for privacy where it matters: private storage, minimal collection, and a deletion path that actually deletes. More on the technical side is at Security.
