The Best Food & Symptom Tracker Is the One That Fits You
Five good apps, five different jobs. This guide doesn't crown a winner — it tells you which tool fits which person, and why. Competitor facts last reviewed July 2026.
Who is writing this, and how we chose
We build NutriAI, one of the five apps below. We are not going to pretend that doesn't shape our perspective — instead, we've constrained this page so a skeptical reader can still use it: every competitor fact comes from public store listings and websites as of July 2026 (marked “varies” where we couldn't verify), NutriAI is not ranked first, and each app is recommended for the person it genuinely serves best.
Our selection criteria, applied to every app: photo scanning, barcode scanning, result editing, calorie and macro tracking, micronutrients, symptom tracking, food-symptom pattern insights, AI coaching, free tier, and price. The five apps were chosen because they are the tools people most often weigh against each other when food and how-you-feel are both in the picture.
Which tool fits which person
- Manual-logging power users → MyFitnessPal. The largest food database in the category, full micronutrient tracking, a free manual-logging tier, and integrations with most wearables and fitness platforms. If you want maximum nutrition detail and don't mind logging, this is the strongest tool on the page. Full comparison.
- People who want a structured plan → YAZIO. Guided diet plans, recipes, and built-in intermittent fasting programs alongside calorie tracking, AI photo tracking, and micronutrient detail in PRO. Best if you want the app to hand you a plan, not just a log. Full comparison.
- Whole-life symptom correlation → Bearable. The most complete symptom tracker here: it correlates symptoms against medication, mood, sleep, activity, weather, and custom factors — with wearable sync and a substantial free tier. Best if food is only one of several suspects. Full comparison.
- Photo-first calorie counting → Cal AI. The most polished pure snap-a-photo calorie scanner, with a very large user base. Best if calories and macros are the whole question and you never want to type a food name again. Full comparison.
- Food-first symptom awareness with AI scanning → NutriAI (our app). Photo and barcode scanning build the food log with almost no effort, each meal gets an inflammation-aware A+ to F grade, symptom check-ins attach to real meals, and an AI coach answers from your own history. Best if you suspect food specifically may be connected to how you feel and manual logging has never stuck for you.

Where NutriAI falls short
- No micronutrient breakdown. NutriAI estimates calories, macros, and an inflammation-aware grade — it does not track vitamins and minerals.
- Small review count. NutriAI 2.0 is a recent release; the established apps on this page have years of reviews and much larger user bases.
- No wearable integration yet. There is no Apple Health, Google Fit, or fitness-tracker sync today.
- English-only app UI today.
- AI estimates need occasional correction. Photo analysis is an estimate; that's why every result is editable before you save it. Our scoring has also not yet been externally validated — we explain the details at How the Score Works.
The fine print
NutriAI's meal grades estimate how aligned a meal looks with anti-inflammatory eating principles. NutriAI is a general wellness tool — not a medical device, and not a substitute for professional medical advice. Possible food-symptom patterns are observations worth discussing with a clinician, not diagnoses.
